It is an honour and a privilege for me to be elected as Captain of this great Society and, for Ponteland Golf Club, where I have been a member for over 45 years. The Society formed in 1977 and has a membership of over 650. It provides the link for Captains of Northumberland Golf Clubs to continue the fellowship and friendships made when they were Club Captains. The opportunities for meeting up are the Spring and Autumn golf competitions and the Annual Dinner. I look forward to renewing the acquaintance of those of you that I know and making new friends on these occasions. I also take this opportunity to thank our golf club Liaison Officers for their support and, on your behalf, our Committee members for their unstinting work in managing the affairs of the Society. I look forward to my year as Captain and to carrying out my duties in a manner which upholds the traditions of the Society laid down by previous Captains. Let us look forward to a good golfing year in 2017.
The Society was founded in 1977 and now has a membership of more than 600 gentlemen who are Past Captains of Golf Clubs in the County of Northumberland.
The two main golf events each year are the Spring and Autumn meetings held at various golf courses throughout the County.
Annual matches are held against teams from other County Captains' Societies.
The Society's annual Dinner is a highlight of the County golf Calendar. The AGM is now held a few weeks after the Dinner
